Interview with Molly Suryawanshi:

1. How has your child's, in your case Kabir's disorder affected the way in which society perceives you?

In my case I got a very positive support and response from the people around me. I believe that the response that we get from the society is based upon how we perceive ourselves. If i pity myself then the world looks down but if I hold my head high with dignity the world respects that.

2.Do you think there is a misconception about this disorder which you would like to highlight?

Yes People need to understand that people with autism are not impaired. If correctly worked upon at an early intervention stage then the individual has an ability to lead a functionally independent life. Understanding how is impacting an individual right now and channelizing therapies to help goes a long way.

3. What advice would you give to someone on the spectrum or their parents?

Start Early, Accept and don't self pity. As a primary caregiver you can make all the difference. You can never go wrong with your own child.
